 Shady
Creek Angus was started in 1995 by Larry "Butch" and Ruthe Greer. Butch and Ruthe live on the farm with their daughter
Lindsey. Lindsey and Ruthe came up with the name for the cattle
operation and it has grown from there. Shady Creek Angus (the farm) is
actually located 7 miles southwest of Aledo, Illinois or about 2 miles
east of Seaton, Illinois (just 7 miles east of the Mississippi River).
We started with a few cows and heifers we purchased from Clear Dawn Angus, here in Illinois; T.C. Ranch in Nebraska; Vintage Cattle in California; Woodhill in Wisconsin; Wilson Cattle Company in Indiana; and the Sweeney Brothers in Altoona, Iowa just to mention a few. Our operation is 100% A.I. using only the top bulls available (such as Twin Valley Precision, Summitcrest High Prime OH29, SS Traveler 6807 T510, Leachman Explorer, Sitz Alliance, SAF Focus, Yukon, 1407, 036, 365, 598, Dateline, EXT, and Kruggerrand) to produce calving ease calves with excellent growth and carcass production as breeding stock for other producers. Since there are no facilities for our own cattle sale close to the farm, we participate in several sales elsewhere such as the Illinois Expo, Illinois Futurity both held in Springfield, Illinois; the Ringgold Sale in Mt. Ayr, Iowa in March (in which our bulls have topped the sale the last 3 or 4 years); and the Hawkeye Sale in Bloomfield, Iowa in June. We also sell our cattle by private treaty and visitors are always welcome to come and take a look at what we have to offer. The cattle in these pages are only a few of our Angus as we have many more at all stages of production to offer.
